Traditional hammam

The hammam

Our attendants prepare your skin with black soap, then comes the traditional scrub and the soap wash. It is relaxing, and your skin comes out softer and cleaner. A sauna is also available.

How a session goes

A session always follows the same order: heat, then black soap, the scrub and the wash, done by an attendant of your own sex. All you have to do is follow along.

  1. Heat

    You settle into the hot room, all marble and steam. There is a sauna too.

    Wear underwear or a swimsuit. Single-use shorts and briefs are sold on site.

  2. Black soap

    Our attendants apply savon noir, the traditional black soap that gets the skin ready for the scrub.

    Bring shower sandals and your toiletries.

  3. The scrub

    With the traditional glove (kessa), by an attendant of your own sex. It is vigorous, so say so if you’d like it gentler.

    You can bring your own glove; the shop also sells the traditional kessa.

  4. The wash

    An invigorating soap wash, or ghassoul, Morocco’s mineral clay, depending on the option you choose.

  5. Rest

    The relaxation room, a drink at the café, then back out into the city with softer, cleaner skin.

    Bring a change of underwear. Bathrobe and towels are provided with the private hammam and the Eve package.
